Born in Mumbai on 25th June 1974 to Randhir Kapoor and Babita, Karishma Kapoor had acting in her blood, literally. Apart from filmstar parents, she grew up in the presence of other Bollywood legends such as her great-grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor , grandfather Raj Kapoor and uncle Rishi Kapoor. Nicknamed “Lolo”, Karishma showed her rebellious streak when she became the first woman from the Kapoor clan to enter the industry after others, including her mother, were discouraged from pursuing a bollywood career. She did her first movie “Prem Qaidi” when she was just 16. Her younger sister Kareena Kapoor followed her footsteps and is now a much-sought-after actress in Bollywood.After initial comic capers and low budget films, she carved out a niche for herself as a serious actress and gave several stellar performances. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress thrice for Raja Hindustani, Fiza and Zubeida. Her role in Dil to Pagal Hai, won her the National Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Rumours of the Karishma Kapoor Abhishek Bachchan romance were confirmed when their engagement was announced in October 2002, at the 60th birthday celebrations of Abhishek's superstar father, actor Amitabh Bachchan. However, the engagement was called off in February 2003. It was speculated that her mother Babita - who was estranged from her father for many years - was the reason for Karishma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan's split.While it lasted, the Karishma Kapoor Abhishek Bachchan romance saga was ripe with media attention. Karishma Kapoor married industrialist Sunjay Kapur on 29 September 2003, R.K Cottage in a Sikh wedding ceremony. Karishma Kapoor daughter Samaira was born on 11 March 2005. Subsequent to this, media reported rift between the couple. Sunjay Kapur and Karishma have ironed out their differences and patched-up, thus saving their marriage. Samaira now has a younger brother, Kiaan Raj Kapoor who was born in 12 March 2010.
